TRU OG Authentic Apparel was founded by Gwan Harrison, a man whose story is as real as the message behind the brand. Born in 1973 and raised during the height of Hip Hop’s golden era — a time when culture was booming but the streets were unforgiving — Gwan grew up in a single-parent household, watching his mother work tirelessly to provide for him and his younger sister.

Like many young men of his generation, he became a product of his environment. He left high school early and got caught up in the street life — hustling, stealing, and eventually selling drugs, which led to a felony conviction that changed the course of his life. But that was 30 years ago.

Today, Gwan is happily married husband, a proud father of two, a former professional auto detailer, and a true mentor to the next generation. Through years of growth, self-reflection, and transformation, he realized something powerful: it’s not enough to be older — to be a real OG, you’ve got to give back. You’ve got to teach.

That realization became the foundation for TRU OG. Gwan created the brand not just to sell clothes — but to spread wisdom, represent authenticity, and reach the youth with the message he wishes someone had given him: You are valuable. You are capable. And you don’t have to learn everything the hard way.

He often tells young people, “You don’t have to be my child for me to care. If you’re older and you’re not helping, you’re part of the problem.”
